The Megumi Financial Method™ Training for SHISEIDO UNION Members

Spurred by the publication of our book and an appearance on PIVOT, SHISEIDO UNION approached us with a request to make accounting a common language for all company members. In response, we held three training sessions for union members using The Megumi Financial Method™ on October 6, 2023, and February 22 and April 5, 2024.
During the training, we used the piggy bank and balloon metaphors of The Megumi Financial Method™ to clearly explain how to read balance sheets and profit and loss statements and how to cultivate a management perspective through accounting, by comparing their financial statements with those of their competitors. We received positive feedback even from participants who are usually not comfortable with numbers, who told us they found the material easy to understand.
We received a great deal of positive feedback from participating union members, with comments like, “I now understand the key points of financial statements, and it has changed how I view my daily work,” “I feel that accounting can also lead to team building and workplace improvement,” and “I want to expand this training to all employees nationwide.” This has reaffirmed for us the potential for employees to take personal ownership of accounting and bring about significant change within organizations.
